What is a NoEL (No-Observed-Adverse-Effect Level) ?

What is NoEL?

No-Observed-Adverse-Effect Level (NOEL) is the highest dose level at which a chemical substance does not produce observable adverse effects at a given exposure level. This value is used in toxicological assessments and is an important tool for determining safe exposure levels. NoEL is usually determined through animal testing and is used in human health risk assessments.

The NoEL (No-Observed-Adverse-Effect Level) calculation is usually determined by experiments conducted on animals. Here is a general method:

Experimental Studies: In experiments conducted on animals, they are exposed to a chemical substance at different dose levels.

Observation and Evaluation: The health status and behavior of the animals are observed during the experiment. The highest dose level at which no adverse effects are observed is determined.

Determining NoEL: The highest dose level observed is accepted as the NoEL.

This value is used in human health risk assessments and is an important tool for determining safe exposure levels.
