Introduction

Nature:
1. It is a white crystalline solid.
2. It easily dissolves in water at room temperature, forming an alkaline solution.
3. Calcium nitrate (tetrahydrate) is an important calcium nitrate salt commonly used as fertilizer, fuel additive, and refrigerant.

Usage:
1. Industrial field: used as a metal surface treatment agent, pyrotechnic fuel, fire retardant, and concrete additive.
2. Refrigerant: Calcium nitrate solution can be used as the working fluid for refrigeration systems.

Method:
The preparation method of calcium nitrate (tetrahydrate) is usually achieved by reacting nitric acid with calcium carbonate to obtain: CaCO3+2HNO3 → Ca (NO3) 2+CO2+H2O.

Security information:
1. It has a certain degree of danger and should pay attention to protective measures.
2. Avoid contact with organic matter, avoid swallowing or inhaling.
3. Long term contact may cause skin allergic reactions.
4. Protective gloves and glasses should be worn during handling.
5. Store in a sealed, cool, and well ventilated environment.

Nature

colorless crystals. Deliquescence. Melting point of 45 deg C; D1860. Soluble in water, ethanol, methanol, acetone, almost insoluble in nitric acid. The pH of the 5% aqueous solution (on an anhydrous basis) was 6.0. Strong oxidant. Thermal decomposition, release of oxygen. Mixing with reducing agents, organics, combustibles such as sulfur, phosphorus, or metal powders, etc., can form explosive mixtures. Combustion decomposition, the release of toxic nitrogen oxide gas. By high heat decomposition, produce toxic nitrogen oxides.

Preparation Method

The powdered calcium hydroxide was added in small portions to the ammonium nitrate solution, heated and continuously stirred, and the heating was stopped when the weak ammonia odor was just eliminated. After filtration, nitric acid was added dropwise to the filtrate until the filtrate was weakly acidic. Heating to 40~50 C, and then filtered, the filtrate was concentrated, and a little calcium nitrate tetrahydrate was added as a seed crystal, cooled to room temperature, and the crystal was suction filtered, that is, calcium nitrate tetrahydrate.

Use

analysis reagent for detecting sulfate and oxalate. For the preparation of basic culture medium, pyrotechnic materials.

Safety

rat oral LDso:3900mg/kg. The eyes, skin irritation, inhalation of dust, the nose, throat and respiratory tract irritation, causing Cough and chest discomfort. It is strictly prohibited to mix with acids, flammable substances, organic substances, reducing agents, spontaneous combustion substances and wet flammable substances.
