Sodium monosulfide, disodium sulfide, sodium sulfide zinc, Na2S, 215-211-5, 1313-82-2, 27610-45-3

Sodium Sulfide, Na2S, 1313-82-2, 1313-84-4, 27610-45-3

Sodium sulfide is a compound with the chemical formula Na₂S. This compound has moisture-retaining properties and is a yellow, highly odorous and powerful reducing agent that is very easily soluble in water. When heated, sodium sulfide forms polysulfides used in the preparation of artificial sulfur baths. It is also known as sodium sulfide. Industrially produced sodium sulfide can be brown, khaki or pink due to the impurities it contains. The boiling point, weight and melting point of sodium sulfide may also vary due to these impurities.

Sodium sulfide can be obtained by reducing coal. In addition, it is obtained by precipitating sodium sulfate as a by-product as a result of the metathesis reaction of sodium sulfate and barium sulfate using the barium sulfate method. When sodium sulfide and hydroxide acid are mixed in one-to-one amounts, hydrogen sulfide gas is obtained. In addition, hydrogen cyanide is obtained by adding hydrochloric acid to sodium or potassium cyanide.

In the Ceramics Field:
In ceramic production, sodium sulfide is used as a suppressor for quartz.
In the Metals Field
In the metals sector, it is used as a sulfurization process reagent in the preparation of oxidized, metallic copper, zinc and lead minerals for flotation. It also acts as a suppressor in the selective flotation of semi-noble metal tables.
In the Leather Field
In the leather processing field, sodium sulfide is used for shedding.

Additional Information:

Sodium sulfide is widely used in many industries due to its chemical and physical properties. However, there are safety precautions that should be taken into account when using this compound. Sodium sulfide is a strong alkaline and reducing substance, and can cause serious health problems when in contact with skin or inhaled. Therefore, it is important to use appropriate protective equipment and follow safety protocols when using it in laboratory and industrial environments.
