SECTION 4: PRODUCTION METHODS

Method 1: Metallic Nickel Method

Process:

  1. Water is added to the reactor, then sulfuric acid is added to form 30°Bé solution

  2. Metallic nickel is added, and nitric acid is added in fractions

  3. Reaction is carried out until concentration reaches 48-50°Bé

  4. Crystallization and filtration are performed

  5. Crude crystals are washed with water

  6. Water is added to dissolve to 30°Bé

  7. Barium carbonate is added to neutralize free acid

  8. Hydrogen peroxide is added to oxidize divalent iron and hydrolyze it

  9. Purified solution is clarified

  10. Small amount of sulfuric acid is added to adjust pH to 3-4

  11. Concentration, crystallization and centrifugal dehydration are performed

  12. Nickel sulfate product is obtained

Method 2: Recovery Method

Process:

  • Electrolytic waste liquid from copper smelting process is purified

  • Crystallization and dehydration are performed

  • Nickel sulfate is obtained

Method 3: From Cobalt-Producing Nickel-Containing Waste Liquid

Process:

  1. Nickel carbonate is precipitated from spent nickel sulfate solution using soda ash solution

  2. Nickel carbonate is dissolved in sulfuric acid

  3. Nickel sulfate is prepared
