Nature

A colorless transparent liquid with a chloroform-like odor. Almost insoluble in water (25 ℃, 0.llg/ILOG), soluble in ethanol, ether, miscible in most organic solvents. Exposure to ultraviolet light or decomposition during combustion or heating to produce toxic phosgene and corrosive hydrochloric acid smoke high concentrations of vapor will burn at high temperatures. Heat decomposition, release of toxic chloride. Phosgene was generated by heating to 250-600 °c and contacting with iron, copper, zinc, and aluminum. Can react with barium, dinitrogen tetroxide, lithium, magnesium, liquid oxygen, ozone, potassium hydroxide, potassium nitrate, sodium, sodium hydroxide, titanium. Combustion explosion was caused by open flame and high heat energy. A chemical reaction may occur in contact with a strong oxidizing agent.

Preparation Method

prepared by treating tetrachloroethane with lime or alkali in the presence of water. Or from ethylene chlorination and re-fractionation.

Use

used as a solvent for grease removal on metal surfaces, dry cleaning of laundry, extraction of plants and mineral oils, preparation of pharmaceuticals, organic synthesis and dissolution of fats, rubbers, resins and alkaloids, etc. It is widely used in degreasing, freezing, pesticide, perfume, rubber industry, fabric washing and other fields.

Safety

rat oral LD50:4.92/kg; Rat inhalation (4H) LC: 8000 x 10-6. The product is a cumulative anesthetic. After inhalation, Head Pain, dizziness, casein tincture feeling, drowsiness, severe convulsions, or even Coma, respiratory paralysis or circulatory failure. The staff should be protected and the working environment should be well ventilated. The maximum allowable concentration is 3.0 mg/m3. Store in a cool, ventilated warehouse. Keep away from fire and heat source. Protection from direct sunlight. Packing is required to be sealed. Should not be large or long-lived. Should be stored separately from the oxidant.
