Lead acetate is produced by reacting lead oxide (PbO) or lead carbonate (PbCO₃) with acetic acid:

PbO + 2CH₃COOH → Pb(CH₃COO)₂ + H₂O

or

PbCO₃ + 2CH₃COOH → Pb(CH₃COO)₂ + CO₂↑ + H₂O

  • Reaction of metallic lead with acetic acid in presence of oxygen (historical method)

  • Reaction of lead nitrate with sodium acetate
