5. PRODUCTION PROCESS

Stage Description
1. Raw Material Sodium dichromate (Na₂Cr₂O₇) or potassium dichromate (K₂Cr₂O₇)
2. Acidification Sodium dichromate is reacted with concentrated sulfuric acid (H₂SO₄)
3. Reaction Na₂Cr₂O₇ + H₂SO₄ → 2 CrO₃ + Na₂SO₄ + H₂O
4. Crystallization Chromium trioxide (CrO₃) crystallizes
5. Centrifugation Crystals are separated from mother liquor
6. Drying Crystals are dried at controlled temperature
7. Packaging Product is packaged (airtight, moisture-proof containers)

Reaction Equation:

Na₂Cr₂O₇ + H₂SO₄ → 2 CrO₃ + Na₂SO₄ + H₂O

6.1. Electroplating (Chrome Plating) – Largest Use (~70%)

Typical Hard Chrome Plating Bath Composition:

  • 200-300 g/L CrO₃

  • 2-3 g/L H₂SO₄
