Nature

colorless crystals. Slightly formic acid odor. Deliquescence. Soluble in about 11 3 parts of water, glycerol, ethanol-soluble. Its aqueous solution is neutral, and the pH value is about 7.

 Preparation Method

prepared from the reaction of carbon monoxide with sodium hydroxide. Alternatively, it is prepared by reacting formic acid with sodium hydroxide or sodium bicarbonate.

Introduction

Sodium formate decomposes into sodium oxalate and hydrogen at high temperature, and finally becomes sodium carbonate. It has a slight smell of formic acid and is absorbent.

 Use

precipitants for heavy metals can form complex ions of trivalent metals in solution. Reagents for the determination of phosphorus and arsenic. Also used as a disinfectant, astringent, mordant. It is also an intermediate for the production of formic acid and oxalic acid, and is used for the production of dimethylformamide and the like.

 Production process

carbon monoxide synthesis

reaction principle

production method: carbon monoxide and sodium hydroxide solution at 160~200 deg C and 2MPa pressure reaction to produce sodium formate, and then sulfuric acid hydrolysis, distillation to obtain the finished formic acid.

Brief description of Process Flow

This project uses Coke as raw material, through gas dust removal, water washing, decarburization, dust removal and other processes to obtain carbon monoxide gas required by the process, after heating and pressure reaction with sodium hydroxide to produce sodium formate solution, after evaporation, separation, drying to produce solid product sodium formate. Description of each post is as follows:

1, gas

The Coke is lifted to the upper part of the gasifier with electric hoist, and the coke is added from the mouth of the gasifier to the furnace, and the coke is introduced (sent) in the furnace with the fan. The incoming air is insufficiently combusted to produce mixed gases such as carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, and nitrogen.

The main response equation is:

C+O2--------CO2+Q

CO2+C-------2CO-Q

2C+O2--------2CO+Q

2. Purification

The mixed gas from the gas-making furnace enters the cyclone dust collector to remove most of the small solid particles entrained by the mixed gas, and then enters the gas washing tower, which uses water as the washing liquid, further remove the solid particles in the mixed gas, and then enter the Alkali washing tower with sodium hydroxide solution as the circulating absorption liquid to remove part of the carbon dioxide gas in the mixed gas, the water entrained by the gas separated by the hydrocyclone enters the electrostatic precipitator, and the remaining solid small particles are removed by static electricity, and the mixed gas is purified again.

purification process main reaction equation:

CO2+2NaOH----------Na2CO3+H2O

CO2+NaOH------------NaHCO3

3. Compression

The purified mixed gas enters the compressor for two-stage compression to 2.0~2.2Mpa, enters the mixer through the oil-water separator, and mixes with the alkali liquid from the preheater, at a certain temperature and pressure, the alkali solution reacts with most of the carbon dioxide gas, basically removing the carbon dioxide, and obtaining the carbon monoxide gas required for the process.

compression process main reaction equation:

CO2+2NaOH----------Na2CO3+H2O

CO2+NaOH------------NaHCO3

4. Synthesis

carbon monoxide gas and nitrogen gas from the previous step are heated to 140~150 degrees and enter the synthesis reactor, where carbon monoxide reacts with sodium hydroxide to form sodium formate solution, the mixture of sodium formate solution, nitrogen gas and a trace amount of carbon monoxide gas, etc. is subjected to pressure relief and then to a hydrocyclone for gas-liquid separation. The sodium formate solution is pumped into a storage tank for use, and the mixed gas is discharged into the atmosphere.

synthesis process main reaction equation:

CO+NaOH--------HCOONa

CO2+2NaOH--------Na2CO3+H2O

5. Evaporative separation

The Sodium Formate solution in the storage tank is pumped to the evaporator, heated with heat transfer oil from the oil furnace to evaporate most of the water, forming a sodium formate solution with a content of 70-80%, after the pump is sent to the centrifuge, the centrifuge is dried to obtain about 5% of the sodium formate.

6, packaging

The Sodium Formate solution after centrifugation is blown with hot air to a hot air dryer for drying, and qualified sodium formate products are obtained and packaged.

synthesis process production

Since the main product is sodium formate, it is generally believed that the process is a professional process for the production of sodium formate. The advantage is that the yield of formic acid is high because it does not contain other alcohols. The purity of the process is more than 97% of the color is also relatively good, the export volume is large.

manufacturer: Dongying Shuntong, Shanxi Plain, etc.

neopentyl glycol by-production method

one is produced by the conventional disproportionation process for the production of neopentyl glycol. Advantages: high content of neopentyl glycol. Due to the low price, the color is black, most manufacturers mentioned after the production of neopentyl glycol formic acid. Manufacturers: Shandong Yongliu, Shandong Dongchen, Zibo Shaohua, etc.

The other is the disproportionation of improved process production, also known as neopentyl glycol methanol process. (Domestic, Shandong Chemical Research Institute developed alone. Internationally, this is also a unique technology in China.) Advantages: white color, high content, and not caking, wide application field. The export volume is large. Manufacturer: Jinan Aifu, Shandong Conte.

pentaerythritol by-product method

one is produced by a conventional process. Advantages: low price, light yellow color. Manufacturers: Hubei Yihua, Ruiyang chemical, etc.

one is produced on the basis of traditional processes for purification. Advantages: The color is white, the content is high, the export volume is large. Manufacturer: yentianhua.

trimethylolpropane

The aldol condensation reaction of N-butyraldehyde with formaldehyde aqueous solution under the action of basic catalyst produces 2.2-dimethylol butyraldehyde, 2.2 & Hy;-Dimethylolbutyraldehyde then cross-reacts with excess formaldehyde under strong alkali conditions to generate trimethylolpropane, formaldehyde is oxidized to generate formic acid, and formic acid is neutralized with sodium hydroxide to generate sodium formate.

Use

  • is mainly used for the production of formic acid, oxalic acid and calcium powder
  • used as a reagent for the determination of phosphorus and arsenic, disinfectant and mordant
  • preservative. Diuretic effect. EEC is approved for use by all countries, but not by the UK.
  • is an intermediate for the production of formic acid and oxalic acid, and is also used for the production of dimethylformamide and the like. Also used in medicine, printing and dyeing industry. It is also a precipitant for heavy metals.
  • used in alkyd resin coatings, plasticizers, high explosives, acid-resistant materials, Aviation Lubricants, adhesive additives
  • precipitation of precious metals, complex Ions of trivalent metals can be formed in solution. It has a buffering effect and can correct the pH value of the strong mineral acid to a higher value. It is also a precipitant for heavy metals.
