CHEMICAL DESCRIPTION:

Quartz is the most common crystalline form of silicon dioxide (SiO₂). It is one of the most abundant minerals in the Earth's crust and crystallizes in the hexagonal crystal system. It has a Mohs hardness of 7 and a specific gravity of 2.65 g/cm³. It is used as a fundamental raw material in the ceramic, glass, frit, and glaze industries. It can be found in crystalline or amorphous forms. The micronized form (63 µm) is used in glaze formulations, while the run-of-mine (unmilled) form is used in body (masse) recipes.
