Aceton, Dimethyl Ketone, Dimetil keton, 2-propanon , beta-ketopropan, 67-64-1

Appearance: Fluid Colorless Liquid.
Chemical Name: Dimethyl Ketone
Chemical Formula: C3H6O, OC(CH3)2
Cas No : 67-64-1

Definition and Usage Areas:

The first member of the ketone class is dimethyl ketone. Its closed formula is C3H6O, boiling point is 56 ° C. It combines with water, ethanol and ether in all proportions. It has a sharp odor. It is obtained from the dry distillation of wood: from the heating of calcium acetate; in technique, from the dehydrogenation of isopropanol with copper catalysts at 250 ° C; from the mixture of ethanol and water vapor in the gas phase at 250 ° C with Fe2O3 catalyst. If acetone and sodium nitrosyl prussiate are mixed in a basic environment, a red precipitate occurs, acetone is detected. An important reaction is the formation of iodoform with elemental iodine in a basic environment. It is found in cigarettes.

Areas of Use

It is used as a solvent in the cosmetics sector (nail polish remover).
It is used as a thinner and solvent in the paint sector.
It is used in the production of most chemicals in the industry.
Almost half of the world production of acetone is used as a precursor in the production of methylmethacrylate.
Its second main use in the industry is in the production of bisphenol A, which is the main component of most polymers such as polycarbonate, polyurethane and epoxy resins.
It is used in the production of cleaning materials. It is a very good glass cleaner.
