Note DEHA is a strong reducing agent and oxygen scavenger. It is widely used for corrosion control, especially in boiler feed water and condensate lines. Its volatile structure provides protection in steam and condensate lines, and it does not increase water conductivity after reaction. It also functions as a polymerization inhibitor, antioxidant, and photochemical smog inhibitor.

SECTION 22: CRITICAL WARNINGS AND BEST PRACTICES

CRITICAL WARNINGS:

  • Flammable Liquid: Flash point is ~45-50°C. Keep away from heat, sparks, and flames.

  • Alternative to Hydrazine: DEHA is significantly safer than hydrazine and at least as effective as an oxygen scavenger.

  • Conductivity Advantage: Does not increase water conductivity after reaction. This is a major advantage for high-pressure boilers.

  • Vapor Phase Protection: Due to its volatile structure, it provides protection not only in the liquid phase but also in steam and condensate lines.

  • Oxygen Scavenging: Approximately 3 ppm DEHA is required for 1 ppm O₂. Continuous dosing is recommended.
