Step-by-Step Instructions:
Fill the tank with approximately 2/3 of the required volume with water.
Add the required amount of SurTec® 177 powder (60-80 g/l) slowly while stirring.
Stir vigorously until complete dissolution is achieved.
Top up to the final volume with water.
Heat to operating temperature (20-40°C).
Check pH (should be ~13).
Check conductivity – should be suitable for electrolytic cleaning.
Example Bath Preparation (1000 L):
SurTec® 177: 60-80 kg (60-80 g/l)
Water: To 1000 L
Take a homogeneous sample from the bath while stirring.
Cool to room temperature.
If the sample is turbid, allow turbidity to settle, then filter or decant the solution.
Equipment:
1 mol/l hydrochloric acid (HCl) or 0.5 mol/l sulfuric acid (H₂SO₄)
Methyl orange indicator solution (0.04%)
250 ml Erlenmeyer flask
10 ml pipette
Burette
Procedure:
Pipette 10 ml of bath sample into a 250 ml Erlenmeyer flask.
Dilute to approximately 100 ml with deionized water.
Add 3-4 drops of methyl orange indicator.
Titrate with 1 N acid from yellow to orange/red (pH 4.0).
Record the acid consumption (ml).
Calculation:
SurTec® 177 (%) = Acid consumption (ml) × 0.52
Example:
If acid consumption is 14.0 ml:
SurTec® 177 = 14.0 × 0.52 = 7.28%
Result is within operating range (6-8%)
